Adventures in urban food production. A journal of my efforts to grow chiltepin and de arbol peppers on my roof and indoors in Brooklyn NY.

October got cold.

Had a few nights going down below 40 degrees so I brought most of the roof plants down to what was our guest room. I guess it’s still the guest room, just now any human guests will share the space with around 20 chile plants. Set up a couple of big shelving units and the plants are stacked on three tiers. When I find a few hours of time I’ll rig up lights above each level of plants.

I know it seems weird but I love these plants so much I can’t just let them wither with the frost. And if my calculations are correct it should only cost about $15/month extra with the florescent lights I’m planning to use. We’ll see if that’s enough light to produce another crop.
